We want to thank Glen for everything you've done for Eugene and our family. When we adopted Eugene 4 months ago, we were nervous, non-confident, uninformed new dog owners. Eugene was a former working dog who was good, but had clearly not been socialized with dogs. The person who facilitated his adoption recommended a halti, and told us he was reactive to certain breeds of dogs. We were told by our groomer "Eugene doesn't need dog friends". This didn't sound entirely right, but we deferred to them and, sure enough, he did show some significant and unpredictable aggression to other dogs, including multiple attacks. We were stressed and anxious, and in hindsight Eugene could undoubtedly read the underlying tension behind our fake-happy voices during our walks. At one point we considered giving him up. We met Glen and everything immediately changed. Eugene now has dozens of dog friends, mutters occasionally at another dog but our walks are almost entirely relaxing companionable events, and Eugene looks forward to nothing more than meeting his buddies at Glen's or at our neighbourhood park. Eugene couldn't make us happier, and we can't imagine not having him in our family. We owe everything to Glen, who's given us confidence, knowledge and, most importantly, trust in Eugene. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Glen to anyone who needs help with their dog. Thanks, Glen!
Honestly the best dog trainer in Ottawa! We rescued our German Shepard mix at 6 Months old out in Quebec and within a few weeks we started having issues with him pulling, barking ferociously at people (usually males), lunging at other dogs during walks, and overall just having great difficulty getting him to listen to us. This went on for a couple years until we finally decided to seek outside help. I must admit that when I adopted him I was naive of his breeds needs and did not realize that we were creating his behaviour through our own anxieties. When we first met Glen, my dog did not bark once at him which never happens and he went right up to him. Glen not only trained many of his behaviours out, but also trained us as owners to be more confident and secure as we were anxious and thus causing anxiety in our dog. I, and I’m sure many others do not fully realize that dogs are sensitive and to train a dog you have to be open and willing to accept that as owners we must retrain ourselves. We have been going to Glen for over two years now and could not be happier with the outcome. It took a lot of work especially since we had to get past our own mental blocks to create a calm relationship with our dog. He has also been super accommodating to our fluctuating schedules and always has the dogs best interest in mind. Hands down we swear by this trainer, as he treats all dogs like his own.
My dog is a Boxer/Rottweiler mix. I have had him since he was a little puppy. I got a hold of Glen when Buddy was around 3 years old, with a newborn it was harder for me to spend as much time with the dog. I noticed my dog becoming aggressive towards others and anxious. He suggested we have an evaluation class before moving forward. When I started with Glen, the results where INSTANT. The first day, Glen evaluated my behaviour with the dog and gave me a bunch of tips and tricks. The next week I had Glen babysit Buddy for a day. IT WAS AMAZING how much my dog loved being there all day. When I went to pick him up, he was tired and didn't even want to go back home, it was like Glen had shown him dog heaven! I really can't describe the love Glen has for dogs, this is the main reason I would recommend his services to ANY dog owner. He works for the well being of the Dog and not his pocket (Best prices in Ottawa, just FYI). Unfortunately, I moved to another city and could no longer bring Buddy every week. I doubt I will find another "Glen" but to those in Ottawa, your dog will never find a better trainer than him!
The overall experience we have with Glen and our puppy is just amazing. Our puppy 8 months Husky/Lab mix named Luna is full of energy and always excited. Before having her enrolled with the dog talker, we had difficulty managing to go on walks with her. She would pull way too much, she would be distracted when other dogs would be around, she wouldn't come back to us when called. The basic commands (sit, stay, lay down) wouldn't work well with her. We've tried other puppy training group, Petsmart puppy training, but that didn't work at all for us. After just a couple sessions her behaviour had changed completely. Her behaviour improved drastically and our behaviour as owners also changed for the best of our puppy. Glen gave us tips and tricks how to better improve the communication between us the owners and our puppy. I would definitely recommend anyone, friends and family for puppy training, behavior issues, dog sitting or just for tips and tricks to better understand and live with your dog. Glen gives your dog the attention they need while your at work or away!
Glen’s experience has made such an improvement on my 6-year-old Miniature Pinscher mix Bobby ’s behaviour and socialization! Bobby has been going to school with Glen for only 2 short months now and already he is more responsive, cooperative and easy going. Like many mini Dobermans, Bobby can be quick to respond with anxiety/aggressive behaviour when first being exposed to new people/animals or surroundings. With Glen’s help, I have developed an understanding of how to better support Bobby’s improvements and as a result, we are taking steps in the right direction towards a social dog! Looking forward to many more positive experiences through what we have learned from Glen! Thank you.
I'm a first-time dog owner, and so grateful to have found Glen. He has helped me in so many ways to raise my little puppy and has been an enthusiastic advocate in his development. My dog Obie spends at least one day a week with Glen, not that he needs more training, but with Glen, I'm certain he will get extra exercise time since I can only walk him so many times a day. With Glen as his trainer, he has turned out to be a polite, sociable, healthy and obedient companion. If you are a first-time owner like me, not only will your dog be in good hands to learn important skills, but your dog will also get a chance to socialize with many other kinds of dogs. I've learned so much from Glen on how to care for Obie, too. It's been so beneficial to myself, my family and Obie. Thank You.
Glen has been a huge help training our miniature pinscher, Herman. He is a high-energy dog that has a bit of an issue with other dogs. Taking him to the dog park would always be stressful as I wouldn't know how he may react to another dog. However since going to Glen's, he is becoming a whole new dog! He is making friends and his anxiety has subsided a lot. When we get him home after a day at Glen's, he is exhausted and you can tell he's had a long, fun day being stimulated. Herman is becoming better behaved and we are learning how to deal with his energy and needs much better. Without Glen's knowledge (And patience!) we would still be struggling. Glen's service is wonderful and very affordable, if money and finding time in our schedule wasn't an issue, we would certainly bring Herman much more often! How Glen manages to keep up with these dogs each day is amazing, and we can't say enough good things. It's a great place to bring your dog and you know they are having a fun time and getting some training as well. We're looking forward to a strrssfree trip to the dog parks this spring! Thanks Glen!
Jake is our 5 year old "bitta" . He is a bitta husky, a bitta shepherd, and a bitta pig (loves mud). But, he is all dog. Jake is like many dogs these days, a rescue. He was discovered on a reservation in northern Ontario. He was in very poor condition and was the low dog on the pecking list. His days were numbered. Despite only spending the first two months of his life in these desperate circumstances, he has memories that affect his personality to this day and not always for the better. Glen has been a great find. Through his pack walks, Jake has learned to socialize with all breeds and all ages. It always impresses me how Glen manages the pack. Where I had difficulty managing my dog, Glen manages 5, 6, 7 dogs at a time. He speaks and they listen. He lives up to his "shingle"! Very pleased and very thankful.
I truly appreciate all your hard work and training. I really believe that Lacie is a far better dog because of your experience, guidance and caring for her. We really needed a socialized dog especially after our long experience with our last dog. You created a placid, friendly, obedient and welcoming friend for us to cherish for years to come. It has been a wonderful experience seeing the progress you have instilled in her. She has become the forefront of our family and an excellent companion. We are both very impressed with your commitment to the dogs and would recommend others to seek out your services. Thanks again for all your support with Lacie over these last few months. All the best to you and yours in the future!!
We met Glen today at Bruce Pitt. Our dog Toby was on his leash because he was not listening with all the distractions. My girls and I were immediately fascinated with how well Glen was managing a pack of 8 dogs while the 3 of us were struggling to keep track of one puppy!! Glen was happy to teach us some great commands and allowed us to continue our walk with him so we could learn more. By the end of our walk, I was more confident with some simple commands and much to my amazement, my dog Toby was actually listening! We promise to keep up with the instructions and we will give you a call in the new year when we are ready to expand our training. Sincerely, Andrea, Mallory, Lauren
Hi, Glen. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for me and my dogs while I lived in Ottawa. You went above and beyond for us and you will never know how much that meant to me. I felt good about going to work, knowing that Hermione and Otis were not only looked after but cared for in such a loving way. It is so obvious that you love your dogs and that is what makes you so good at what you do. You taught them, and me, so much. Their off-leash skills are fantastic and continue to be. Your commitment to Hermione's hair was second to none. LOL. You almost always kept them way longer than was agreed upon and that made such a difference for me. I don't think I'll ever find anyone who is as devoted to their dogs as you are. You have set the bar pretty damn high. I wish I could have transplanted you to Victoria. This email could never express just how much the time you spent with my guys meant to me. Thank you!!!!!!!!! Jess
The Cesar Millan of the North. Excellent teacher and trainer to both you and your dog. You can tell right away that he's not there just because you're paying him but because he genuinely cares and wants to help your dog. For me and Arnold, it was a nightmare trying to keep him from being so unruly and disobedient at times. I adopted Arnold from the Humane Society and he was just under 2 years old when I met Glen. Glen taught me a lot, from correcting techniques to pack leader mentality and it has helped tremendously with Arnold's behavioral issues. Although Arnold still has a bit of a ways to go, you can visibly see the progression he's making thanks to Glen. Incredible bang for your buck lesson that you're unlikely to get anywhere else. He is quite literally a Cesar Millan right here in Ottawa. Just a piece of advice: the most important thing when you get a lesson from Glen is that you're also there to learn. You're a pupil as well, not somebody who's just taking their dog to the shop for a quick fix-up.
We ran into Glen and his pack while my wife and I were out walking our two dogs, fox-hound mix Travis and Chihuahua Bruce. Our one year old Travis instantly calmed and responded to Glen, clearly the Alpha. Glen was kind enough to give us a free lesson, and showed a few simple pointers and tricks that have changed our lives. Seeing how the Dog Talker worked with the other dogs, and how happy, calm, and playful the group was, convinced me that this man knows his stuff. The dogs don't just get hours of play, attention, and exercise, he is constantly reinforcing good behaviors and correcting the dogs with a simple command or touch. He is also invaluable at training us as owners, since we know we have a lot to learn. We're planning on signing up with our pooches.
My girlfriend and I got our puppy from a shelter when he was roughly one year old. He was very loveable and fairly well behaved from the moment we got him, however he had some pretty bad separation anxiety. My Mum’s friend had been using Glen’s services for over a year and highly recommended him to us. When I first spoke with Glen on the phone he took nearly 45 minutes to address our concerns and explain how he was going to approach the issue. Upon his first visit, he spent nearly 2.5 hours with us (well over the one hour that he actually billed us for) to assess both our dog and us in order to identify a plan of attack. We started to notice improvements immediately after his first visit. On our following sessions, Glen made significant strides with our dog, and within one month his separation anxiety had passed. We were finally able to leave him alone all day with no issues, or worry. I have met many people who work with dogs, and I have to say that Glen is by far the best. He clearly loves dogs and goes the extra mile to ensure that both owners and their dogs have the best experience possible. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of some help!!
My self and Hunter met Glen the dog talker about 3 weeks ago. Hunter is a very spontaneous and curious dog. On our first free lesson with Glen; he showed me the proper commands and how to establish dominance as the pack leader. Glen was also able to control Hunter in a firm but gentle and very effective way. Before our first lesson Hunter was never able to be off leash due to poor recall and not responding to my commands. Within the first 45 minutes of Glen working with Hunter- Hunter was off leash and running free with the other dogs and came back to us when called. We had 3 more lessons with Glen and that's all it took for Hunter to learn how to respond to my calls. Amazing!!! Glen is the Cesar Millan of 2017!! I could not be happier with my experience and time spent with Glen. Thanks Glen!
Hi Glen, Thank you so much for your help with Sam yesterday at the park in Manotick. She is generally a very well behaved dog but is not used to being in a crowd of dogs and started to try and dominate. My husband and I were in shock as you so gently corrected her behaviour and continued to let her try and play with the other dogs. She immediately responded to you and obeyed, and it was obvious how much more control she developed in such a short time. She was so happy to do as you directed, all licky and tail waggy when she did things correctly and was praised. You reminded us of some of the bad habits we have that would cause confusion for Sam when giving her direction. We will be practicing your advice. A free lesson and in half an hour our dog was much improved. What a fantastic afternoon. We are very appreciative. You have a natural gift and we are so glad that you put the effort into helping others improve their relationship with their dogs. We’ll be contacting you again for some formal lessons. Dorothy and Dan (and Sam)
When I first saw Glen and his pack at the park, I was struck by how calm and gentle yet firm and controlled he was while interacting with the dogs. He immediately recognized a couple less than desirable behaviors in Odie and Calvin, told me about similar issues with his dogs then offered to work with us for a short time. The advice and corrections Glen gave made a difference immediately so we signed up for his introductory session. Glen spent more time with us than expected and we took away many new practical ideas that we have been able to apply right away. We recommend Glen for his calmness, knowledge, genuine love of animals as well as being excellent value for money. Thanks Glen, we are all looking forward to our next session!
We met Glen on a walk at the dog park and right away he started to help us with our dog Sam. He was inviting, friendly, and very knowledgeable! Before meeting Glen, we had troubles with Sam pulling on the walk and with his loose-leash walking. But just after one walking session, it is amazing to see how much better Sam already is! With just a few adjustments, it was like walking a totally different dog. Glen took the time out of his day to help us with loose leash walking, pulling on the leash, and gave us many great tips to help us on our walks. I have never seen someone so great with dogs! I would definitely recommend him and we will for sure be calling him for another lesson soon!
When Glen came to meet Laddie for the first time, as soon as he was at our front door the lesson had started! Laddie has alot of new skills and manners to learn but by the end of the first lesson we had made progress... Thank goodness Glen has a great way with Laddie and we are very lucky to have come across his services. He comes early and leaves late every time and that's not everyday you can find a dedicated trainer that cares and really takes the time to help with your dog :D.... Thank you Glen
I just completed my first lesson with Glen and my 9 month old puppy Sasha. I was shocked at how much improvement there was in such a short time. Glen takes the time to understand and properly introduce himself to your dog before the real lessons begin. I think this really helped with Sasha because she is generally a shy dog and takes a while to warm up to strangers. The lessons are a good mix of instruction for the dog, the owner, and constructive playtime to keep the dog happy and focused on the lessons. Thanks for the first lesson Glen. Look forward to the next one!
I have been friends with Glen since 1987 and I can attest to the name - he truly is the Dog Talker. I am also a life-long dog owner and Glen has always been fantastic with my dogs. Lucky - pictured above is a very cautious dog, he takes his sweet time to approach most people but he and Glen became fast friends. Glen really helped Lucky come out of his shell and he is always very happy when he and Nanuq come for a visit.
Glen has been taking my young husky, Sadie, for a few sessions and already she is easier to control when I walk her. She only strains at the leash now when she is excited by squirrels and wildlife we encounter. He provides her with plenty of vigorous physical exercise and socialization with other dogs. Although she is shy meeting people, Sadie has quickly responded positively to Glen's calm, quiet manner. He has good advice for me to train Sadie to be obedient and responsive, without using food treats or punishment. The joy Sadie exhibits when she sees Glen is the best recommendation I can give.
I met Glen on a walk with my seven month old German Shepherd. I immediately took a liking to Glen. I love his calmness around the dogs and how they responded to Glen. It was clear Glen was in charge and the pack leader. So I called Glen and my boy had his first walk/run with a pack. It was an awesome sight, I was very impressed seeing Glen show up in a small car with five medium to large dogs - and all where calm. I would recommend Glen any time! From one very happy doggie Mom Yvette and Comanche.
We rescued a 3 yrs. old lab mix and quickly thereafter we realized it had a few serious issues which were of concern. Glen was quick to observe the nature of the problem and suggested a positive approach. As well, Glen suggested many tips which made sense. The tips were very useful and helped put a stop to other minor behaviors. The new member of our family is now a keeper.
When I first met Glen and Nanuq, my puppy was only a few months old. Being my first four-legged friend, I had no idea where to start. Glen offered advice/suggestions in regards to teaching my pup good manners, building and maintaining a good relationship, and establishing boundaries using positive reinforcement. He also made himself available for phone and email follow up and welcomed questions and concerns. Glen's own canine friend and the relationship they have is a true testament of Glen's skills as a trainer.
If you have benefited from one of my free lessons, or you are a regular client, the dogs and I would greatly appreciate a recommendation.
